| Customer Reviews: Happy Birds January 7, 2010 Donna (Cape Cod Ma.) I am delighted with this heated bird bath pond, as are the birds! We had 3 days of snow and now temps at 20 degrees since the day I set it up. kind of nice looking out and seeing unfrozen water and birds splashing in it... makes me think spring LOL The unit will look natural come spring in the garden. The electric cord snaps in inderneath so it will be hidden.
Happy Birds! February 6, 2010 Becky Young (Brevard, NC United States) I had used a plastic pot saucer as a birdbath for ground level, filled with some small rocks. Once the temperature dropped, my birds would walk around on the ice and look disappointed. I received this bird bath as a gift (thanks, sis!) and immediately replaced the pot saucer with it. Bird & squirrel use was instantaneous. This has been a cold, wet winter in my neck of the woods (Western North Carolina) and this bird bath has kept them very happy. One white-throated sparrow even bathed in it when the temperature was below freezing! Cleaning is accomplished with a stiff bristle brush and a rinse-out. Would definitely purchase again.
Just waiting for the birds! December 2, 2009 J. Larson (Mpls, MN) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The large size of this birdbath gives plenty of room for many birds at one time. An outdoor extension cord can be added to the short (18") cord if needed but it is nice not to have extra laying around. The gravel texture will allow the birds to perch without slipping but may make the bath harder to clean out. If you have the means, a spray and rinse should be enough. This bath can easily be unplugged and brought inside to clean, too. The end furthest from the cord is shallower than the other end - great for different size birds to wade in for a bath. I placed a couple of large smooth stones on that end just in case they are needed. I can see steam rising from the surface on cold days. The heater is regulated to come on only when the temperature drops below a certain level. However, the water does evaporate and the birdbath will need to be replenished daily or every other day depending on your environment.
Great winter bird attraction February 9, 2010 Sin Feint (Hannibal, MO USA) This holds quite a bit of water, so it doesn't need constant refilling. We've had some below-zero temps this winter and the water has remained unfrozen. It remains to be seen how long the unit lasts, though -- some reports on heated birdbaths say they only last one season. Won't know about this one until next winter!
Farm Innovators "Four Seasons" Sand Coated Ground Birdbath Pretty Good - Could Be Just a Little More Durable, Though February 14, 2010 SMH (Maryland) The Farm Innovators "Four Seasons" Sand Coated Ground Birdbath is Pretty Good - It Could Be Just a Little More Durable, Though.
It hold one Gallon of water, It keeps the water from freezing and the water is just barely warm, which the birds and squirrels seem to like. The edge of the sand-coated bowl material chipped in a couple of places from outdoor handling, but it works good. That's why I believe it could be a little more durable because it is used outdoors.
