These things arrived almost before I logged off the page I ordered them from. I used them in my shallow bird baths and they work great!!! Not one bit of ice.
I bought 2! March 26, 2009 Agatha Kristy 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I bought two of these. Not only does the one work amazingly well in the bird bath, but the other one I put on a pot of dirt, scatter dirt and small gravel over it, and that heater got even more action than the heated bird bath! And that is saying a lot since I am in Northern Wisconsin and we get sixty below zero nights in the winter! Birds would not only eat the gravel and the small pile of sunflower seeds, but would sit on the heated dirt and enjoy the warmth and because the container had an inch lip around, it kept a bit of the wind off the birds too.
I highly recommend to any serious bird watcher, that if you are going to heat water, you might want to consider buying two and heat a dirt bath too!
Good affordable product January 13, 2008 Jennifer Murphy-spivey (new jersey) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I just couldnt see spending the cost heated birdbaths were going for, and some of the birdbath heaters. I picked this up and it works great. Simple construction, priced reasonably, and keeps the birdbath unfrozen, which is all it needs to do. Nothing fancy but it doesnt need to be. I did find that the cord was pretty short, and it would have been great had it been just a few inches longer as it made it difficult to sit properly when plugged in but not a huge concern.
Best De-Icer for the Money October 1, 2009 V. Christy (Show Low AZ) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is the 2nd season l have bought this De-Icer. I have bought the more expensive birdbath de-icers. They don't last any longer then this one and this one usually lasts longer then the more expensive ones. You can't expect them to last much more then one season and if they survive till you don't need them in the Spring you are doing good, therefore buy this economical one that you can afford toss out and buy each year.
My experience is that the more expensive ones will quit working after the first winter if not before. So far this De-Icer has always lasted through the whole winter and longer, which is really good. However, I like to throw out the de-icer at the end of winter because it will be less chance of shorting out and I don't like to find healthy dead birds because they got electrocuted from the old de-icer.
I have 2 birdbaths that are actively used year round. So I have experimented with several kinds of de-icers. This one is the best. Even if this one will work another winter I don't use them. They wear out fast submerged in water so buy one you can afford to replace each season. This one has a 1-year guarantee, so if it does quite before winter is over they will send you a new one.
The guarantee on this one like most of them is only year thus meaning only one winter. So I say buy this one because it is not too expensive. I like it because it is flat and I can put rocks on it. It takes up the least room in even a small birdbath. It works great!
Bic Store has sent this de-icer to me very quickly. I got it in about 3 or 4 days after I ordered it.
Bird Bath De-Icer January 6, 2009 Jade 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This de=icer works GREAT! Would buy it again. Using a saucer from a large flower pot works great because it is shallow and if there is to much water on top of the de-icer anything over 3 inches will freeze.
